From The Artist:

The New York School of Abstract Expressionists was dominated by a mid-century hyper-masculine energy. Their names are household famous. But it was the (less celebrated) women who were, in my view, the most inventive, creative and flat out gorgeous painters. Helen Frankenthaler and Joan Mitchell were two truly remarkable artists, brilliant painters. They have inspired me for decades. This piece would not exist without their life changing work.
